Co-Lin survives over Holmes

GOODMAN – JaQuandria Williams scored 13 points and pulled down 7rebounds as the Co-Lin Lady Wolves remained undefeated with a 54-52win over the Holmes Lady Bulldogs.

In the men’s game, the Co-Lin Wolves (3-2) got back into the wincolumn Thursday night defeating the Holmes Bulldogs 68-58 andbreaking a two-game losing streak.

The Wolves travel to Coahoma on Monday. Tip off for the women’sgame is 6 p.m. followed by the men’s game.

Co-Lin 54, Holmes 52

Sophomore Paige Webster came off the bench to score 12 points andpull down 8 rebounds.

Co-Lin (5-0) led by as many as 9 and took a 30-24 lead into thelocker room at the half. The Lady Wolves shot 39 percent from thefield.

“We were very fortunate to beat a young and improving Holmes teamtonight,” said Lady Wolves Head Coach Gwyn Young. “I was proud ofhow we responded to being down late in the game. We were down withthree minutes left and we played well enough to get the lead andnever give it back up.”

Dierra Gilmore led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points. Louise Collinschipped in 10 points.

The Lady Wolves defeated Holmes in the season opener at theSouthwest Coca-Cola Classic 88-66.

Co-Lin 68, Holmes 58

Sophomore Marcus Hooten led four Wolves in double figures with agame-high 21 points. Antonio Holmes chipped in 11 points, TJ Kosileand Jamal McCoy scored 10 points each.

Co-Lin led at halftime 35-22 and led by as many as 15 points.

“Holmes is struggling as a team right now, but it is still nevereasy to win on the road in this league,” said Wolfpack Head CoachDennis Sims. “We’ve still got to get a lot better as the seasongoes on, but tonight late in the game we finally did a decent jobof making free throws and taking care of the ball.”

Leading the Bulldogs was Tevin Hammond with 19 points. CurtisBailey added 12 points.

The Wolves defeated Holmes in the first game of the season at theSouthwest Coca-Cola Classic 74-61.
