Services for Laura Sue Lofton of Brookhaven are 4 p.m. Monday,May 13, at First Baptist Church with burial in RosehillCemetery.

Visitation is Sunday, May 12, from 5-9 p.m. at BrookhavenFuneral Home and Monday, May 13, from 3-4 p.m. at First BaptistChurch.

Mrs. Lofton, 82, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Beverly HealthCare Center. She was born in Louisville on May 5, 1920, to JoeBrooks and Kathryn Gay Ezell.

She worked in Birmingham during World War II and moved toBrookhaven in 1946, where she worked as a lab technician at King’sDaughters Hospital. Brookhaven became her home when she met andmarried the late W.D. Lofton Jr.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was activein the WMU. She was a member of the Wildwood Garden Club and servedon the board of King’s Daughters Medical Center (Willing HeartsCircle). She worked at Lofton’s Department Store until herretirement in 1990.

She was the valedictorian at Louisville High School andgraduated from Mississippi State College for Women with a Bachelorof the Arts degree in chemistry.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband.

Survivors are her sons, William D. “Bill” Lofton III ofBrookhaven and Robert Carol Lofton of Hazlehurst; daughter, KathrynSue Lofton Stevens of Apopka, Fla.; sisters, Charlotte Salter ofJackson and Jo Evelyn Fox of Louisville; and six grandchildren.
