Constable Lavon Boyd says its time to plant English peas. He andJohn Brown were at the restaurant already planning their springcrops.

In celebration of Black History Month the library is showcasingblacks who were the first to accomplish great deeds here in OleBrook. Some of the 2010 honorees are Chief Pap Henderson, the Rev.Jerry Durr, Supervisor Jerry Wilson and his wife Alderman MaryWilson, and more. Stop by and check it out.

Another of our firsts was the late John Hightower. He was the firstblack elected Election Commissioner here in Lincoln County. Thestory was told many times about him moving here to Old Brook afterthe war and falling in love with it. His wife Josie decorated herhome for Valentine’s in honor of the great love they shared.

Chief Henderson said singer Mariah Carey stopped in Brookhaven withtwo large buses the other day for some french fries at 5:30 a.m.while traveling I-55. Officer Clint Earls intercepted and hostedthe singing sensation and made Ole Brook proud as a police officerchecking on our visitors in the wee hours of the morning. I justwish he had called me, I would have been happy to cook thosefries.

Prayers of strength to my school mate Dianah Wilcher on the loss ofher daughter who was mother to three young boys. Also to the Rev.and Mrs. Phillip Sterling – their son is father to the boys.

Happy birthday to Tabatha Gipson, Stephanie Dixon Lorings, KedriaYarbrough, Teegie Phenique Robinson and Nydra Jones Lewis.

Mississippi Scholars tickets are still on sale to win the 2009Honda Scooter from Brookhaven Honda.

Jonnie Sullivan wants to invite everyone to a benefit program forDeacon Robert Thompson on Saturday, March 6, at St James M.B.Church.

A great big shout out to Jessica Jointer who is a student at theUniversity of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

A great big congratulations to the Rev. Dr Phillip Hamilton and theMt. Wade Church family. They have completed phase one of therenovations of the new church building. Dr. Hamilton says the oldchurch building will host community outreach activities. Phase twowill see the completion of the gym. I believe I saw Doc Harrison’sname on one of the office doors at the gym’s entrance.

Summer is right around the corner and we need to start making plansfor our youth. Minister Powell is asking men in the community tojoin the Call to Duty on Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the restaurant. Getinfo on how you can start your own Scout Troop at yourchurch.

Remember to contact Merle Richardson if you are going to model inthe fashion show on March 13 at Alexander school hosted by LanceFuller. All proceeds go to the Martha Sykes Center.

Pastor Bruce Smith says his wife Barbara is doing well and sends aGod bless you to everyone for all your prayers. She is back at workbut still has to make trips to the hospital weekly for doctorvisits.
