The son of a former Lawrence County sheriff was arrested on drugcharges Thursday when a raid on his Crooked Creek community homecaught him in the process of manufacturing methamphetamine.

Will Mullins, 25, of 309 Ray Cliburn Road, was charged withpossession of precursor chemicals with intent to manufacture methfollowing the raid, said Lawrence County Sheriff Joel Thames.

Will Mullins is the son of Willie Mullins, who served as sherifffrom 1995 until 1999.

The raid was the result of a “lengthy investigation on him andothers,” Thames said. “After receiving numerous complaints and somevaluable information, we had probable cause to execute the searchwarrant.”

The sheriff said they found a large amount of precursorchemicals in the house and in a trailer behind the house. They alsofound a working laboratory in the home.

“There were pills soaking in the process of extracting thenecessary ingredients,” Thames said.

Mullins remained in jail this morning, awaiting an initialhearing likely to be held this afternoon to determine bond, hesaid.

Thames said the sheriff’s office is continuing to investigateother cases in the area.
