Trevor Brister likes his new job and his surroundings in theBrookhaven High School field house. Brister is coaching thedefensive line on the varsity football team and helping with theninth grade (freshman) team.

“I am really enjoying it,” said Brister. “The coaches seem tocare a lot about the players. It is a close-knit staff and we havevery nice facilities to work in.”

Brister, 29, a New Orleans native, is a graduate of Joseph S.Clark High School. He was an All-SWAC defensive tackle at AlabamaState University when Brookhaven native Houston Markham was servingas head coach.

Brister majored in special education. He served as defensivecoordinator at Bullock County (Ala.) in Union Springs and taughtschool in Hiram, Ga. before moving to Brookhaven. He is married tothe former Monique Montegut of New Orleans.

“I’m happy to be here,” said Brister. “I inherited a verytalented group of defensive linemen.”

BHS head coach and athletic director Tucker Peavey said Bristerwas a welcome addition to his staff. “Trevor will be an asset toour coaching staff. He brings some experience to the position he iscoaching. I really like his enthusiasm.”

Former defensive line coach Jaymie Palmer is the new offensivecoordinator at BHS, replacing Ryan Ross who accepted a coachingposition at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit lastspring. Also on Peavey’s varsity staff are Rod Henderson, defensivecoordinator; Patrick Hardy, secondary; and Eric Stokes,receivers.
