McKee makes 2 pass thefts in victory

Enterprise cornerback Blake McKee made a statement in the YellowJacket’s 26-11 victory over the West Lincoln Bears in a Region 4-1Afootball contest last Friday.

McKee made five tackles and intercepted two passes for theJackets in the win over the Bears on Cole Field.

For his accomplishments, McKee has been named The DAILY LEADER’sDefensive Player of the Week for the third week of the 2004season.

McKee (5-11, 150) was pleased to be singled out. “It feelsgreat,” he said.

In the 40-yard dash, McKee runs a 4.6. He said his strength andspeed were his best attributes as an athlete.

“Blake is in his second year to start,” said first-yearEnterprise head coach Mack Bezet. “He has a little experience atcornerback. He plays wide receiver and slot back on offense.”

McKee takes his responsibility seriously on defense. “I stop thepass. And i watch for the handoff off of the block.”

Bezet said McKee is a solid player. “Blake has some quickness.He catches well and runs well.”

McKee said preparation was the key to beating West Lincoln. “Wewatched film on their passing. And played pass defense.”

The defense rose to the occasion last week against WestLincoln.

“We’re a good group,” stated McKee. “We’re trying to get better.We are coming together.”

McKee listed the other members of Enterprise defense, includingTrey Herrington at cornerback, Tate Ball at free safety and ErikClark at linebacker. The defensive line includes Vincent Smith,Antonio Sanders, Justin Vincent, Drew Waldrop, Wayne Nations andChris Fuller.

McKee said he has enjoyed playing for Bezet. “He is great. He isvery dedicated.”

According to McKee, new assistant coach Brian Eby has beenhelpful. “He is great, too,” added McKee. “He’s making me a betterplayer.”

For the season, McKee has four pass interceptions. In the seasonopener against Wesson, he returned an interception 60 yards for atouchdown.

McKee also plays on the baseball team. Last season, he playedshortstop and finished the season with a .500 batting average.

McKee’s favorite school subject is Algebra II.

His favorite college football team is the LSU Tigers. In theNFL, McKee follows the New Orleans Saints. His favorite footballplayer is running back Willis McGahee of the Buffalo Bills.

McKee said he appreciates the support of his teammates, andcoaches, the parents and the community . “I’m thankful for all oftheir support.”

The Jackets are scheduled to play at Mt. Olive Friday night.
