Panthers clinch division soccer title

TERRY – The Brookhaven boys team clinched the Division 6-4Asoccer championship Tuesday night, beating the Terry Bulldawgs3-1.

Directing the Brookhaven offense was forward Justin Windham whoscored two goals. Matt McGeehee scored the other goal and all threecame on breakaways.

Terry scored on a penalty kick with 10 minutes left in thegame.

Providing 6 saves was Panther goalkeeper Dominick DiPaola.

“We outshot Terry 21-11,” said BHS soccer coach Rob McCreary. “Ithought we played pretty well.”

The Panthers have scored 50 goals in seven games and allowedjust 2 goals. Brookhaven stands at 7-0 in the division and 10-4overall.

Brookhaven hosts Crystal Springs today on King Field, startingwith the girls at 5:30 and the boys follow at 7.

The Panthers advance to the state playoffs and host therunner-up from Division 8-4A, either St. Stanislaus or Oak Grove.Playoffs begin Saturday Feb. 3.

Lady Panthers Win

The Brookhaven girls defeated Terry 2-1 as forward Devine Porterscored twice for the Lady Panthers. They lost an earlier encounter6-1 to Terry and settled for second place in the division.

The Lady Panthers (7-5-1, 7-1), coached by Sally Perkins, finishrunners-up and must travel in the first round of the playoffs, Feb.3. They will play the winner of the George County-Gautier game outof Division 8-4A.
