The Brookhaven Lady Panthers managed to stay undefeated, overcoming an 12-error nightmare to shave the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs 8-7 Thursday night in softball action at the Ole Brook Softball Complex.

“We were very fortunate to pull this out with as many mistakes as we made,” said Ole Brook coach Chad Walker.

The Lady Panthers (3-0) will have a week off before returning to action. They will visit Natchez to battle the Cathedral Lady Green Wave. Junior varsity action kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30.

The Lady Bulldogs (0-5-1) resume action today. They invade Wesson to tangle with the Wesson Lady Cobras. Game time for the junior varsity is 5 p.m., followed by varsity at 6:30.

Brook 8, Franklin 7

The Ole Brook and Franklin County softball fans witnessed an error-filled game as the Lady Panthers and Lady Bulldogs battled back and forth for the second time in a week.

The Lady Bulldogs came out hungry for revenge after Brookhaven hammered FC 17-2 last Thursday in Meadville. They overcame a sluggish start to grab an 4-1 lead in the second inning.

The Lady Panthers bounced back to tie the game at 4-all in the third, before taking a slim 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the fifth inning, the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Panthers pushed across one run apiece. FC committed four errors in the game.

Freshmen Katherine Shell was the winning pitcher for Brookhaven with five strikeouts and one walk. She gave up 13 hits.

Franklin County pitched a three-girl rotation against the Lady Panthers. Emily Smith suffered the lost for the Lady Bulldogs with two strikeouts and one walk. Harley McKay (1K, 5BB) was the starter. Emilee Wallace (2K, 0BB) was the middle relief.

Sophomore leftfielder Katie Grace Culpepper directed the Lady Panthers’ offense with three singles. Shelby Peavey and Christen Benson ripped a pair of singles apiece. Shell hit safely.

Macy Brabham was the offensive leader for Franklin County with a triple and a single. Alyssa Case, Jamecia Starks, Shelby Smith and McKay contributed two singles apiece. Hitting safely were Sierra Bethley, Shelly Case and Hailey McDaniel.

“We played a lot better than we did last week,” said FC coach Dana Smith. “Brookhaven has a good and strong team.

“Overall, I am pleased with my girls’ effort. Even though, we are very young team the girls are steadily improving. It showed tonight when the girls stepped up and filled in when we had a couple of girls fall to injuries.”

In JV action, The Lady Panthers and Lady Bulldogs ended their game in a 6-all kmnot due to the 1-hour time limit.

Tia Bussey led Brookhaven with two singles. Destiny Trevillion, Haley Speaks and Jayden Fuller hit safely.

The Lady Bulldogs received singles from Kenzie Whitehead, Deanne Cothern, Kaytlyn Smith and Emily Smith.
