Copiah-Lincoln Community College head softball coach Allen Kenthas announced the signing of two of Franklin County’s mostdecorated fast pitch softball stars in centerfielder Monea Cameronand right handed pitcher Melissa McFarland.

Cameron and McFarland are seniors on the FCHS team. Both arefour-year varsity players under Lady Bulldogs head coach DanaSmith.

“I’m very happy for them,” said Smith. “Both have worked reallyhard here. Both should help Co-Lin over the next two seasons.”

The Franklin High pair are the first to sign softballscholarships at Co-Lin in over five years.

“It’s been several years since we signed any players fromFranklin County,” said Co-Lin softball coach Allen Kent. “It’s goodthat the Bulldogs are developing some players who can reallycontribute.”

Cameron, a speedster also starred on the State Championshiprunner’s up girls basketball team as the starting point guard.

“Monea is a talented athlete with speed to burn,” said Kent.”She really has a lot of potential and should only continue toimprove now that she will be focusing on only one sport.”

As for McFarland, the talented power pitcher stands 6-1 on theseason for the Lady Bulldogs. She has a near 60 mph fast ball.

“Melissa is a right handed pitcher with good movement,” addedKent. “She has improved her control and should be able to providesupport to our pitching staff.”

Franklin County is currently in a three-way race for thedistrict crown. FCHS plays at Columbia on Saturday, and will playhost to the Wildcats in Meadville for Senior Night, Monday, April7. The Lady Bulldogs must win both in order to make theplayoffs.

“Coach Smith is doing a good job with them,” said Kent. “Theyhave some talented athletes coming up.”
