BA girls win in 2 OTs; Trinity nips Cougars

NATCHEZ – The Trinity Episcopal Saints scored a pair of freethrows in the final seconds of Saturday night’s game to clip theBrookhaven Academy Cougars 45-43.
In the varsity girls contest, it required two overtime periodsfor the Lady Cougars to secure a 44-42 victory over the LadySaints.
Brookhaven Academy hosts Jackson Prep Tuesday night for fourgames, beginning at 4 p.m. with a seventh grade girls contest.
Trinity 45, Brookhaven Academy 43
The Brookhaven Academy boys, coached by Dale Watts, fell to 17-6with the loss. The Cougars were a cold 8 of 18 from the free throwline.
Daniel Lofton powered the Cougars with 13 points. Josh Winbornepumped in 12 points.
For Trinity, Matthew Freeman led with 19 points. Andrew Johnsonfinished with 8.
Brookhaven Acad. 44, Trinity 42 (2 OT)
At the end of regulation, Brookhaven and Trinity were deadlockedat 38-all. They were tied 40-40 at the end of the firstovertime.
The Brookhaven girls,coached by Barry Gray, improved to 23-2with the win.
Freshman center Anna Katelyn Mangold fired in 17 points andpulled down 9 rebounds for the Lady Cougars. Forward Kelli Snidernetted 12 points, made 5 steals and had 5 assists. Kellie Bradyadded 10 points. Hannah Watts grabbed 5 rebounds.
Trinity was led by Molly Butts with 12 points. Madeline Crossfinished with 11.
Junior varsity action
The JV Trinity boys posted a 40-30 victory over Brookhaven.
Brookhaven led by Chandler Rogers with 10 points.
Trinity led by Sidney Chaffin with 22 points.
The unbeaten Brookhaven girls whipped Trinity 41-15 in JVplay.
The Lady Cougars (24-0) were led by Laura Beth Wright and MaryLindsey Magee with 8 points apiece. Savannah Brister had 6points.
Bethany Ogden led Trinity with 6.
Brookhaven’s 7th grade boys knocked off Trinity35-25.
The Cougars were led by Gage Posey with 15 points. Will Hickmanfollowed with 11 points.
Trinity got 10 points from Andrew Moronie.
