Services for Ruby Lee Coleman, of Baton Rouge, La., formerly ofCaseyville, are 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14 at Zion Chapel AfricanMethodist Episcopal Church in Caseyville with burial in Mt. CarmelCemetery in Caseyville.

Visitation is Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Williams Mortuary.

Miss Coleman, 87, died Nov. 7, 2005, at Lakewood QuartersNursing Center. She was born Dec. 22, 1917, to Walter PhillipColeman and Violet Coleman.

She was retired from Holsum Bakery. She was a member of BethelA.M.E. Church in Baton Rouge.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister, Mary AliceWilliams; and her brothers, Walter Phillip Coleman Jr. and WillieB. Coleman.

Survivors are her sister-in-law, Vera Coleman, of Brookhaven;and many nephews, nieces and other relatives.

Rev. Harold E. Gartman Sr.

Services for the Rev. Harold E. Gartman Sr., of Pricedale, are11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Calvary Baptist Church in Pricedalewith burial in the church cemetery. Catchings Funeral Home inMcComb is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is today from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 11a.m. at the church.

Mr. Gartman, 66, died Nov. 9, 2005, at his residence. He wasborn in Lincoln County on Sept. 26, 1939, to Ray Gordon Gartman Sr.and Nellie Smith Gartman.

He was a member and pastor of Calvary Baptist Church for thepast 19 years and was a former pastor of Silver Creek BaptistChurch in Pike County. He was an Army veteran. He was an avidgolfer and gardener and loved to work in his yard. He was also aformer Gideon.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and one sister, PatsyGartman Lynn.

Survivors are his wife, Ann Stubbs Gartman, of Pricedale; twosons, Gene Gartman Jr., of Suffolk, Va., and Ken Gartman, ofStarkville; one daughter, Connie Lozier, of McComb; twograndchildren; one brother, Ray Gartman Jr., of Schulenburg, Texas;one sister, Donna Bellman, of Des Moines, Iowa; and numerous otherrelatives and friends.

Donald McDaniel

Services for Donald McDaniel, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. Monday,Nov. 14 at New Vision Fellowship Center with burial in Rose HillCity Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. with a wake from 7 to 8p.m. at at Williams Mortuary.

Mr. McDaniel, 47, died Nov. 8, 2005, at River Oaks MedicalCenter in Flowood. He was born on Oct. 18, 1958, to John “Billy”McDaniel and Claudette McDaniel.

He was employed as a carpenter by Craig and WilkersonConstruction of Jackson. He attended Brookhaven High School.

Preceding him in death were his brother, Micheal McDaniel; andan aunt, Freda Merchant.

Survivors are his wife, Margaret McDaniel, of Brookhaven; hismother, Claudette McDaniel, of Brookhaven; his father, John Willie”Billy” McDaniel, of Tylertown; his stepsons, Lorenzo McNulty andDedrian McNulty, both of Hattiesburg, and Ronnie McNulty, ofBrookhaven; his brothers, Ronnie Robinson, of Brookhaven, BennieMcDaniel and his wife, Mae, and Gregory McDaniel and his wife,Kellie, of Port Muga, Calif., Eric McDaniel and his wife, Angie, ofLeMoore, Calif.; his sisters, Claudette McDaniel, of Brookhaven,Sandra Polk and her husband, Chris, of Chesapeake Bay, Va., andSusan Smith and her husband, Joel, Mirgena Beach, Va.; hisgrandmother, Lillian Williams, of Jackson; and threegrandchildren.

Colleen Elizabeth Moore

Services for Colleen Elizabeth Moore, of Wesson, are 2 p.m.Saturday, Nov. 12 at Strong Hope Baptist Church. Stringer FamilyFuneral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Moore, 55, died Nov. 9, 2005, in Hazlehurst.

Survivors are her husband, David Moore; her son, Eric Rush, ofWesson; her daughter, Kinta Rush, of Dallas; her father, KennethTeague, of Pascagoula; her brother, Kenneth Teague, of Rockwall,Texas; her sister, Kathleen Anderson of Pascagoula; and onegrandchild.

Grover Smith

Services for Grover Smith, of McComb, are 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov.12 at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb with burial in HollywoodCemetery.

Visitation is today from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith, a retired McComb businessman widely known as one ofthe area’s best fishermen, died from complications of a stroke onNov. 9, 2005. He was 85. He was a resident of Camellia Estates inMcComb.

Mr. Smith, who owned and operated Acme Sheet Metal Works inMcComb until his retirement in 1979, remained in vigorous healthuntil he suffered a stroke on Sept. 29, followed by a second strokeon Oct. 29.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Gladys FlowersSmith. The father of five children, he was preceded in death by hisson, David Anthony Smith, of McComb; his parents, Marshall andCharity Smith; two sisters, Marguerite Corban and Margie Martin;and one granddaughter, Lacey Baker Smith. Surviving children areKathy Burnes, of McComb; Delores Bell, of Memphis, Tenn.; MikeSmith, of McComb, and Karen Wallace, of McComb.

A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of Marshall andCharity Smith, of the Bogue Chitto community. He graduated fromBogue Chitto High School and attended Delgaddo Technical School inNew Orleans, where he learned the sheet metal trade.

He formed Acme Sheet Metal in 1955 and operated the companysuccessfully for 32 years with his wife serving as his partner andsecretary. As a businessman, Mr. Smith was known as hard working,reliable and honest.

“He was a simple man with old-fashioned values,” said hisdaughter, Karen Wallace, of McComb. “Everybody knew that his wordwas his bond.”

During his long retirement, Mr. Smith enjoyed camping withfellow members of the Good Sam’s Club and fishing at his camp atManchac Pass on Lake Marepas. He frequently caught catfish thatweighed more than 40 pounds and provided the main course fornumerous fish fry events. His longtime fishing companions includedSonny Marsalis and J.R. Greer, of McComb, both deceased, andcurrent McComb residents Cliff Moak and Edwin Ethridge.

Mr. Smith was also known for the large vegetable garden heplanted each summer at his home. His garden fronted Highway 98 Eastjust east of the South Magnolia intersection, and passersbyfrequently stopped to discuss his crop. He also raised blueberriesand figs, which he shared with friends.

In addition to his wife and children, Mr. Smith is survived byfour sisters. They are Elizabeth (Penny) Hart and Louise Walker, ofBogue Chitto; Brenda Montgomery, of Brookhaven; and GeraldineEthridge, of Hattiesburg.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren, twostep-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His grandchildrenare Jason Maxwell, of McComb, Jennifer Smith Dumas, of McComb,David Bell, of Memphis, and Josh Bell IV, of Santa Barbara, Calif.,Bridget Smith, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Melita Smith, ofMemphis, Sara Wallace Anderson, of Starkville, Jamie Wallace, ofMcComb, and Julie Wallace, of Hattiesburg. Step-grandchildren areJason Howell and Teri Watson, both of McComb. Hisgreat-grandchildren are Ashlynn Maxwell, Jack Dumas and LaceyDumas, all of McComb.

He was a member of East McComb Baptist Church.

Members of Barracca Men’s class at the church and Cliff Moak andEdwin Ethridge will serve as honorary pallbearers

Pallbearers will be Jason Maxwell, Dr. John Dale Dumas, Bo Bell,David Bell, Bryant Anderson, Jason Howell and James Watson.
