Britt tosses 3-hitter; Hornets check St. Joe

Jody Britt pitched a 3-hitter and the Loyd Star Hornets cruisedto a 5-1 Tuesday night victory over the Madison St. Joseph Bruinsin Division 6-2A action at Loyd Star. Britt (4-1), a seniorright-hander, struck out 9 batters and walked 2 as the Hornetsraised their record to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in division play. Brittlimited the Bruins to 3 singles.
“We had real good pitching,” said Loyd Star coach SidneyWheatley. “Our defense was solid. We didn’t hit the ball enough butgive their pitcher credit. He had a real good breaking ball.”
Losing pitcher Hunter Blanks allowed 5 runs on 4 hits. He struckout 11 and walked 2.
Designated hitter David Cuevas collected 2 doubles in LoydStar’s triumph. Cuevas doubled in the third and drove in 2 of his 3RBIs.
Loyd Star catcher Matthew Delaughter doubled in the secondinning and also singled.
In the JV game, Loyd Star beat St. Joe 9-2.Kyle James pitched the victory.
Jason Nix and Trevor Portrey doubled for Loyd Star. MichaelBritt and Russell Brewer singled for the 3-1 Hornets.
Loyd Star resumes play Friday, hosting the St. Andrew’s Saints.The junior varsity game starts at 4:30, followed by the varsity at6:30.
