Americans capture 9s Subdistrict over Copiah

GALLMAN – Lincoln County’s American League All-Stars won 8-4Saturday night over Copiah County in the championship finals of theDixie Youth Baseball AAA 9s Subdistrict Six Tournament. TheAmericans erupted for 5 runs their final turn at bat to secure thewin.
“This game was a real test for us,” said American manager StanWinborne. “It was a gut-check game for us, too. We bowed our necksand had a strong sixth inning.
“Both teams made some huge defensive plays,” he added. “Theyboth played tough.”
On the mound, Cade Hodges (7 Ks, 2 BB) started and went 5innings for the Americans. He faced 23 batters, giving up 4 hitsand 3 runs, 1 earned.
At the end of the fifth the score was tied 3-3.
Dylan Winborne (3 Ks, 1 BB) replaced Hodges and faced 6 battersin the final frame. He gave up 1 hit and 1 run to preserve thevictory and notch the win. Hodges had a 2-RBI hit in the decisivesixth.
Parker Flowers went 2-for-2, getting a triple and aninside-the-park homer for the champs, netting 2 RBIs. Getting 1 hitwere Hodges, Winborne, Justin Johnson, Marquise Bridges, JohnnyBowman and Cullen Keene.
Copiah’s Will Lingle (2 Ks, 5 BB) was the losing pitcher,entering the game in the fifth. He faced 12 batters, gave up 4 hitsand 5 runs, 1 earned.
Matt Henry (3 Ks, 3 BB) started on the mound and faced 24batters. He gave up 3 runs and 3 hits, allowing 2 earned runs.
Copiah finished with 5 hits Levi Brunt singled and doubled. JaySmith, Corbin Garret, Alex Walker and L.D. Stovall singled.
Winborne’s team will meet the South Subdistrict champion in abest-of-three series this week to determine seeding in the statetournament. It will be a home-and-home situation, starting Tuesdayin Brookhaven.
