WESSON – Shutouts were the theme of Sunday afternoon’s fastpitchsoftball doubleheader between Copiah-Lincoln Community College andHinds Community College. The Lady Wolves blanked the Lady Eagles6-0 in the opener. The Lady Eagles won the nightcap 10-0 in 6innings.

Co-Lin hosts Gulf Coast Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader,with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.

Co-Lin 6, Hinds 0

The Lady Wolves (16-4) got an outstanding pitcher performancefrom Rebecca Bailey. She tossed 7 innings, allowing no runs on 6hits, with 11 strikeouts and no walks. Bailey helped her cause atthe plate with a single and 2 RBIs.

“Bailey had another solid outing,” said Co-Lin head coach AllenKent. “She kept them off balance, her change-up was working wellagain today.”

Co-Lin opened the scoring with a 3-run first.

Sophomore Meleah Brown singled and moved to second on asacrifice bunt by Ashley Sykes. Kayla Crochet’s single platedBrown. Two batters later, Rebecca Rosseau walked. Catcher MissyPaulina single to score Crochet. Emily Langley singled and BeccaBoone walked to load the bases. Rosseau would later score on passedball.

The Lady Wolves added a single run in the fourth to extend theircushion to 4-0. Sykes, Crochet and Bailey hit consecutive singles.Bailey’s base hit sent Sykes across homeplate.

Kent’s ballclub closed out the scoring in the sixth with a pairof runs. Brown singled. Sykes reached first, as she was hit by apitch. Crochet walked to load the bases. Bailey grounded into afielder’s choice to score Brown. Rosseau grounded out to second toscore Sykes.

Brown paced Co-Lin with a pair of singles and 2 runs scored.Rosseau singled twice.

The Lady Eagles (11-13) got singles from Mary Alice Roy, CandacePocorello, Kala Griffith, Lauren Johnson, Brandi Westerfield andLauren Bush.

Alex Hawkins took the loss in 4 innings. She gave up 4 earnedruns on 8 hits, allowing 3 walks and no strikeouts. Taylor Jamestossed in the final 2 innings in relief.

Hinds 10, Co-Lin 0

The Lady Eagles (12-13) jumped on the scoreboard in the third totake a 1-0 lead. Mary Alice Roy tripled. Two batters later, KalaGriffith grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Roy.

Hinds would plate 3 runs in the fifth and evoked the 10-run inthe sixth with a 6-run display. The Lady Eagles would distribute 8hits against a pair of Co-Lin pitchers in the final 2 innings.

Brandi Westerfield went the distance (6 innings) to pick up thewin. She allowed no runs, 3 hits, a walk with 3 strikeouts.

Brown suffered the loss in 5.2 innings, allowing 8 runs (5earned), on 10 hits. She walked 2 and struck out 4. Rosseaufinished the game in relief.

Co-Lin (16-5) got singles from Brown and Emily Langley. Langleydoubled.

“We just seemed very flat and never got into the rhythmoffensively,” stated Kent. “I believe we saw some effects from thespring break layoff. It seemed like we were going through theemotions. I was very disappointed in our effort, especially withthe big crowd we had on hand.”
