BOGUE CHITTO – The Natchez Cathedral Green Wave escaped theBogue Chitto Bobcats 5-2 Tuesday night in a Division 8-1A baseballshowdown. The unbeaten Green Wave rallied for 3 runs in the top ofthe seventh to keep Cathedral perfect in 19 games and finish 12-0in the division race.
Bogue Chitto (9-7, 9-3) committed 4 errors in the loss andsettled for No. 3 seeding behind Cathedral and West Lincoln in thedivision race. Coach Curt Crain’s Bobcats will host either Ethel orNanih Waiya Friday at 6 p.m., in the opening round of the stateplayoffs.
The Bobcats will continue the best-of-three series Saturday,playing 2 games on the road.
Bogue Chitto first-year coach Curt Crain praised the Bobcats andstarting pitcher Michael Martin (5 K, 0 BB) who went 6 innings.”Michael Martin gave us a chance. We played hard and we hit theball. Our guys did what I asked them to do all season.”
Cathedral gained a 2-2 deadlock in the fifth. Both runs wereunearned.
Seth Avants (1 K, 2 BB) took the loss in relief of Martin.
Cole Mann (5 K, 0 BB) picked up the victory in relief of AaronWhite. He replaced White with the bases loaded in the third.
Cathedral coach Craig Beasley praised the Bobcats. “MichaelMartin had a good performance tonight and he’s one of the bestpitchers in our district.
“Seth Avants is a good hitter,” Beasley added., “We were luckyto get him out in the sixth inning to stop their rally. BogueChitto has a good shot in the playoffs if they keep playing likethey did tonight.”
Avants and Colton McClendon both doubled and singled for theBobcats. Josh Craft and Martin singled.
The Greenies had 3 hits, led by Tyler Ballard who doubled.Daniel Jenkins and Caleb Johnson singled.
In the JV game,
Cathedral posted a 14-0 victory.
