Services for Bessie Horton of Lucedale, formerly of LincolnCounty, are 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 10, at Brookhaven FuneralHome Chapel with burial in Holly Springs Baptist ChurchCemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from 9-11 a.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Horton, 89, died March 7, 2004, at Glen Oaks Nursing Homein Lucedale. She was born in Lincoln County Aug. 30, 1914, toJessie Miller and Pearl Smith Miller.

She was a homemaker, and was a member of Pilgrims Rest BaptistChurch in Crystal Springs.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, JuniousHorton; two sisters and two brothers.

Survivors are her sister, Irene Peters of Leroy, N.Y.; herniece, Virgie Horton of Metairie, La.; and her nephew, VirgilHorton of Lucedale.

Mary Opal Mann

Services for Mary Opal Mann of Collins are 10 a.m., Wednesday,March 10, at Billy King Colonial Chapel Funeral Home with burial inRock Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Mount Olive.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5:30-9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mann, 88, died March 7, 2004, at her residence. She wasborn on May 6, 1915, to Robert Remus Callaway and Stella CourtneyCallaway.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Rock Hill BaptistChurch. She was a Texas native.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, L.B. Mann;two daughters, May Joyce Mann and Reba Dean Mann; and four sons,Robert Mann, L.D. Mann, James Mann and Jerry Mann.

Survivors are her daughters, Bertie Ellis of Brookhaven, FayLoice Glass of Hockley, Texas, Helen Yawn, Hazel Jean McPhail andNaomi Frances McPhail, all of Carson, Mary “Myrtle” Williams ofGulfport, and Allie Hatton of Brooklyn; her sons, L.B. Mann Jr. ofHattiesburg, and Curtis Harlon Mann of McComb; her sister, NaomiDennis of Phoenix, Ariz.; her brother, H.H. Callaway of Cisco,Texas; 33 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and eightgreat-great-grandchildren.

Donald Clyde Nevels Sr.

Services for Donald Clyde Nevels Sr. of Brookhaven are 11 a.m.,Wednesday, March 10, at Community Funeral Services Chapel withburial in Easthaven Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday from 5-9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Nevels, 79, died March 8, 2004, at Silver Cross NursingHome. He was born in Lincoln County on Jan. 10, 1925, to Elmer S.Nevels and Anna Smith Nevels.

He was a retired welder. He was a sergeant in the Army, servingduring World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member ofPearlhaven Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, MildredStewart, Irene Price and Sammie Nevels; and three brothers, JamesS. Nevels, Paul Lee Nevels and Jerry Nevels.

Survivors are his wife, LaNora Furlow Nevels; his sons anddaughters-in-law, Donald C. and Susan Beall Nevels, and Dwayne C.and Johnnie Nevels, all of Brookhaven; his sister, Doris Brown; hisbrothers and sisters-in-law, W.E. and Audrey Nevels, Howard Nevels,Robert E. and Bobbie Nevels, and Ralph and Sue Nevels, all ofBrookhaven, and Ivan Nevels of Baton Rouge, La.; and twograndchildren.
