TERRY – Brookhaven and Terry did apre-season tune-up for the 2011 high school football season in theTerry Jamboree at Bulldog Field.

    Ole Brook made it a clean sweep, despite the early jamboreedownpour, picking up a pair of 6-0 wins over the Terry BulldogsFriday evening.

    As mandated by the Mississippi High School Activities Association,junior varsity and varsity teams participating in jamborees areonly allowed to play 2 20-minute quarters with runningtime.  JV action took placeduring the first and third periods, while the varsity teams workedthe second and fourth stanzas.

    “We played with a lot of emotion today,” said Panther head coachWade Henderson to his entire team following the scrimmages’conclusion.  “Saw a lot ofheart out there.  I’m proudof the effort.”

    Early in the evening’s festivities, a 30-minute driving rainstormpassed through southern Hinds County. Neither team was able tomount any successful drives for the slippery conditions.

    In the second JV period, Brookhaven got its lone score whenquarterback Fred Trevillion hit wide receiver Orlando Veals with a15-yard touchdown pass. The 2-point conversion try failed and Ole Brook led 6-0. During thescoring drive, Trevillion had a 40-yard scoring burst wiped out bya holding penalty.

    In the final varsity period, quarterback Zac Smith engineered a6-play, 64-yard march that culminated with Smith calling his ownnumber from 6 yards out. His conversion pass try to receiver Ross Hill fell incomplete.

    “We ran the football well tonight, despite the wet field,”Henderson commented.  “Wedid have a lot of bad snaps. These are thing that we will have towork on before Lawrence County in two weeks.”

    Despite the conditions during the scrimmage, Terry head coach PaulAnderson was encouraged by his teams’ effort.

    “We are a very young ball club,” said Coach Anderson.  “I saw a lot of good and badthings.  We have a lot ofwork to do between now and next Friday night (against McComb).”

    Henderson’s crew will open their regular season Thursday, Aug. 25in Monticello against the Lawrence County Cougars.  Anderson’s Bulldogs hosts McComb.Kickoff for both games is set for 7:30 p.m.
