Ole Brook rallies past Wesson Cobras

The host Brookhaven Panthers overcame seven errors and puttogether a 9-5 comeback win over the Wesson Cobras Friday night inthe Southwest Mississippi Baseball Classics at Moyer Field. Thegames had 2 hour and 15 minute time limits.
Brookhaven (3-1) was scheduled to host Franklin County Saturdayin the final game of the tournament. Wesson fell to 0-2 on theseason.
“I am frustrated by our slow starts,” said Brookhaven head coachRandy Spring after the win. “But we found a way to win the game. Webattled back.”
The Cobras scored 5 runs on 2 hits, 3 walks and 4 Panther errorsfor a brief 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Brookhaven cutthe deficit to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of thefirst.
With 2 outs, Ole Brook exploded in the bottom of the secondinning for 7 runs, highlighted by Scottie Peavey’s 2-run RBI tripleand Patrick Valentine’s 2-RBI single, for a 9-5 lead and eventualwin. The hosts picked up 7 runs on 4 hits, 4 walks and 1 Wessonerror.
The winning pitcher was J.B. Britt (1-0) with 7 strikeouts, 3walks and 3 hits allowed.
Absorbing the loss was Gage Wilson (0-1) who worked the first 2innings with 4 strikeouts, 5 walks and 5 hits allowed. Matt Smithfinished the final 4 innings with 4 strikeouts and 5 walks.
Contributing to the Ole Brook win with a pair of singles wereGabe Wilson. E. J. Henderson singled.
Wesson got a single from Brandon Allen, Gage Wilson and ZachDavis.
