Funeral services were held for Betty Jean Tubbs Harris on March1, 2007, at her home church, Boulevard Baptist Church in Southaven,with burial in Forest Hill South Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. TheRev. Al Pihringer officiated.

Mrs. Tubbs died Feb. 27, 2007, at the home of her daughter andson-in-law, Jeanie Harris Wright and Rob Wright, of Eastanollee,Ga.

She was born on June 18, 1930, in Oxford. As a baby she wastaken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dock A. England, of Memphis,Tenn., to be reared as one of the family. Mrs. England, the formerAlma Price, was a native of Lincoln County and was the daughter ofJoe Allen and Sophia Moak Price. Because Mr. England was anemployee of the Illinois Central Railroad, the family was able totravel often from Memphis to visit relatives in Lincoln County. Itwas with great anticipation that these Lincoln County relativeslooked forward to the visits of Mrs. England, her two sons, J.W.and Kenneth, and the precious little baby girl, Betty. All therelatives, but the cousins, especially, loved her dearly and neverthought of her as not being related, even though she was not bloodkin.

She was married to Edward E. “Gene” Harris. They were veryfaithful and active members at Boulevard Baptist Church, where theyboth were members, and Mr. Harris was a deacon. They were marriedfor 59 years, when the couple had to leave their home in Memphisdue to serious illness, about four months prior to the death ofMrs. Tubbs.

She was a wonderful person, and said that she felt blessed tohave been reared in a real Christian home, and taught how to live agood Christian life.

She was the cousin of Bonnie Cole, who “loved her beyondexpression,” and Rebecca Martin Brown, who were both blessed toattend her funeral.
