Brookhaven School District officials learned Tuesday that anaudit of the 2003-04 year has been cleared by the state auditor’soffice.

Accountant Patrick Lowery presented his report to the board oftrustees on the financial audit that had no findings.

“You’re in sound financial shape,” he told board members.

He apologized for the report coming later than usual, explainingthat the state auditor’s office, which must review all audits, hadbeen shorthanded and their work was backed up.

Lowery said the district received “overall a clean report.” Hesaid there were no notable changes in the district’s finances.

Superintendent Lea Barrett thanked the district’s financialdirector Susan Quinn and her staff for their “professionalwork.”

In other matters of discussion during the board meeting, DeputySuperintendent James Tillman updated the board on the progress ofthe new softball complex at Mamie Martin Elementary School for thehigh school softball team.

He said the project was about 80 percent complete. The field wasalready completed and games are being held on it.

Tillman said the complex lacks a security fence and some workstill needs to be done on the building housing the locker room,press box, concession stand and bathrooms.

“It’ll be a first-class facility when it’s complete,” hesaid.
