Southwest gets eliminated

LAUREL — Lumberton scored four runs in the first inning andheld on for a 4-3 victory over Southwest Mississippi here Wednesdaynight at Lonnie J. Hosey Field in the Dixie Pre-Majors StateTournament.
The loss eliminates Southwest Mississippi from thetournament.
Anthony Harry went the distance for Lumberton, gave up just twohits and got the win.
Zach Cobb doubled for Lumberton while Rashad Henry, Cord Rogersand Eric Alexander added singles.
Seth Davis went the distance for Southwest Mississippi, gave upjust four hits and took the loss.
Patrick Holcomb and Davis each singled for Southwest.
In Wednesday’s other game, Laurel-Jones County defeatedpreviously unbeaten Desoto County, 9-4.
L-JC, Lumberton and Desoto County each have one loss and had todraw to see who would receive a bye into tonight’s championshipgame. Desoto County got the bye.
Now, L-JC will face Lumberton at 5:30 today with the winnermeeting Desoto County at 8 for the championship. The winner headsto the World Series, beginning July 31 in Guntersville, Ala.
