Colonels eliminate Trinity

NATCHEZ – Copiah Academy pitcher Ben Boone remained undefeatedas the Colonels eliminated Trinity Episcopal 13-5 Tuesday night inthe MPSA South State AA Baseball Playoffs. Boone (9-0), a juniorright-hander, went 4.1 innings, giving up 2 runs, striking out 3,walking 2 and allowing 6 hits.
Trevor Blocker (1 K, 2 BB) replaced Boone on the mound. He went1 inning and allowed 3 runs on 1 hit.
Copiah’s Scotty Reese slammed the door and got the save. In 1.2innings, Reese fanned 4 batters.
“Our bats finally woke up in the seventh,” said Copiah coachScooter Prince, referring to his team’s 6-run explosion. “Weoverlooked Trinity and were fortunate to win.”
The Colonels (26-2) resume play next Tuesday in the South StateAA final round. They’ll face the winner of the CentralPrivate-Simpson series.
The Colonels finished with 10 hits. Reese doubled twice. Blockerand Boone also doubled. Boone went 4-for-4. Second baseman MitchReynolds had 2 hits.
Kent King had 2 hits for the Saints.
