Got a closet you need to clean out? Does your garage need a goodsprucing up?
While we can’t offer any suggestions to make those and similartasks any less of a chore, we can suggest a way to do them andbenefit the children of the community at the same time:
Donate your unwanted items to the next community garage sale tobenefit the Kids’ Kingdom. It’s set for Sept. 15 at First BaptistChurch.
So far, three community garage sales have raised $8,600 for theproject. Angie Warren, co-chairman of the financial committee, saidthe goal is to increase that total to at least $12,000 with thenext sale.
Kids’ Kingdom, a $150,000 park project that is still in theearly stages, will eventually be located on 10 acres of donatedland just off Industrial Park Road. The playground is expected tobuilt by volunteers in March during a five-day event similar to anold fashioned ‘barn-raising.’ When completed, Kids’ Kingdom willprovide a clean, safe environment for both youngsters and adultswith a playground and lighted walking track.
Items — especially household goods — are still needed for thenext sale. Goods can be taken to First Baptist Church, Warren said,or pick up can be arranged by calling her at 833-5303. Volunteersare also needed to get the items ready and to help conduct thesale.
“It’s a fun and easy way to help out” the community, Warrensaid.
We couldn’t agree more.
