The economic future of the area will be on the table along withlunch Wednesday at Rusty’s Family Restaurant when the MississippiEconomic Council Marathon Tour stops in Brookhaven.

“This is an annual event that they host around the state, and itpreviews the focuses for the upcoming legislative session,” saidBrookhaven Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce Executive VicePresident Cliff Brumfield.

The chamber of commerce, along with the Brookhaven Lions andKiwanis clubs, and the Community Development Associations ofLawrence and Jefferson Davis counties, sponsors the event, which isopen to the public. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. and will givecommunity residents the chance to find out and discuss what issuesare being featured for the upcoming legislative session, Brumfieldsaid.

“We encourage people to come to Rusty’s to hear (MEC President)Blake Wilson present topics of concern to Mississippi businesspeople,” Brumfield said.

Those topics, Brumfield said, will include economic development,education and work force training. The slogan for the Marathon Touris, “Building our competitive future.”

“This event will be a great way for business people and othermembers of the community to ask questions about their concerns andideas for the future of our economic development,” Brumfieldsaid.

From 11:30 to noon, attendees will network, and the programstarts over lunch at noon. The presentation will be finished at 1p.m.
