Many Franklin County candidates have already won their office byvirtue of being unopposed, but several races will draw voters tothe polls Tuesday.

All three municipalities use the open election system, wherecandidates are not required to disclose their partyaffiliation.

Elections in Bude, however, differ from those in Meadville andRoxie in one respect. Bude has a five alderman system broken intowards, but in Meadville and Roxie the five aldermen run at large sothat the top five vote-getters in the election receive thepost.

In Bude, incumbent Mayor Glen F. Zumbro is challenged by MackLittleton, Ward 3 incumbent Tommy A. Gibbs Sr. will face James M.Griffith Sr. and Ward 4 incumbent Shanna H. Jackson will square offagainst Thelma Shaw, Linda Green Amos and Fannie M. Brown.Incumbent alderman at large Norma Jean Kelly will also facemultiple opponents with John A. Farris and Gerettia D. Buie vyingfor the office.

Michael Goff in Ward 1 and George Price in Ward 2 areunopposed.

In Meadville, incumbent Mayor Gregg Kindle is unopposed.

Six candidates are running for the five alderman at large postshere. Incumbents W.P. “Sonny” Dickey Jr., Charles Calcote, JackHollingsworth Jr., Vanessa Walker and Tammy Underwood arechallenged by George Norris.

The largest race in Franklin County is in Roxie where eightcandidates are vying for the five alderman at large positions.Incumbents Darrell Alford, Lloyd “Doc” Passinger, Betty Pilgrim,Ricky W. Wilson and Mark “Peanut” Youngblood face a field of threechallengers – Archie Geoghegan, Armand Barry Williams and MickeyWilson, who is Ricky Wilson’s twin brother.

Incumbent Mayor Betty Norris will also face a challenger in GlenWhitehead, but incumbent Town Clerk Douglas C. Farr isunopposed.
