BOGUE CHITTO – The Stringer Lady Red Devils escaped with a 3-0 victory over the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats to claim the Region 8-1A crown Thursday night in slowpitch softball action.

“This was a good game,” said Stringer coach Davis Mosley. “Both teams fought hard in defensive battle. I am very proud of my girls’ efforts. They managed to get the hits needed to get the win. Bogue Chitto is a very good ball club and we expect to see them again in the playoffs.”

The Lady Cats (11-5, 2-1) will resume action Saturday. They will be participating in the Ole Brook’s softball tournament at Hansel King Sportsplex. BC battles North Pike at 10 a.m., Wayne County at 12:30 p.m., and Warren Central at 3 p.m.

Stringer 3, Bogue Chitto 0 

The Lady Red Devils and Lady Cats came out strong defensively as both teams battled back and forth.

Stringer managed to push across one run in the top of the second inning to claim a 1-0 lead.

BC threatened on several occasions to rally back throughout the contest, but the Lady Devils made some big plays on defense to keep BC off track.

The Lady Cats will enter the post season as the No. 2 team in the division. The playoffs begin Oct. 15.

Teshia Jones was the winning pitcher for Stringer with no strikeouts and no walks.

Brooke Myers suffered the setback for BC with one strikeout and no walks.

Morgan Smith provided the offensive charge to lead the Lady Devils (5-10, 3-1) with two doubles. Kendalyn Russell contributed a pair of singles. Ashley Valentine and Jaime Wade hit safely.

Senior shortstop Mattie Avants was the offensive leader for the Lady Cats with two singles. Hitting safely were Alexis Givens and Alana Nettles.

“Stringer won it and they deserve it,” said BC coach Scott Leggett.

In JV action,  Bogue Chitto crushed Stringer 7-1.

Lauren McCaffrey tossed the victory for the Lady Cats with one strikeout and four walks.

Jaide McKinney directed BC’s offense with a double and a single. Daley Roberts provided two singles. Hitting safely were Marshonikique Blackwell, Reagan Kirkland, Baleigh Jackson and McCaffrey.
