Funeral services for Cora Mary Smith of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Friendship Baptist Church, with burial in Easthaven Baptist Church Cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith, 83, died Sept. 22, 2013, at Golden Living Center – Brook Manor. She was born in Mississippi on Jan. 26, 1930, to Joe E. Burch and Lena Dickey Burch.
She was employed with Hartley Gove Sons for 20 years, and worked in management and sales for 17 years. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and of the Golden Oldies. “Mimi,” as her family lovingly called her, loved her family very much. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as only a grandmother could and took so much pride in their accomplishments. She loved to travel and gospel singing. She loved her church and her friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, L.E. Smith; daughter, Marilyn D. Smith; grandson, Stacey Smith; brother, J.D. Burch; and sisters, Florene White and Margie Burch.
Survivors are her son, Sherman E. Smith and wife, Linda, of Lubbock, Texas; daughters, Glenda S. Smith and husband, Jimmy, of Brookhaven, and Paula D. McGowen and husband, Keith, of Brookhaven; grandchildren, Jeffery J. Smith and Melissa, Amanda S. Frantz and husband, Gary, Maggie S. Warren and husband, Micah, Sean P. McGowen, Payne R. McGowen and Sandra K. Smith; great-grandchildren, Hannah Smith, Hollie Smith and Heidi Smith; several nieces and nephews, and numerous special friends.
