MEADVILLE – Tommy Clopton knew his Ole Brook Panthers were ready to hit someone else for a change, and Friday night in downtown Meadville, his Panthers hammered the Franklin County Bulldogs with barrage of hits en route to a 41-13 win.

The Panthers (1-0) got three touchdowns and 103 yards rushing from junior running back Treviaunte McDaniel.

“I’m glad we came out of this one healthy and OK,” said Clopton. “We played like this was our first game of the year. We had some mistakes we must correct before we play Lawrence County on Friday.”

The Bulldogs stunned Brookhaven early with a full dose of junior running back Bernard Selmon, which set up a 11-yard scamper by senior QB Chris Robinson for the first points of the game.

FCHS (0-1), coached by Chris Calcote, went through a week of transition as Calcote replaced former Bulldog head coach Jim Nowell on Monday.

Nowell left the team, after being named head coach of the Bulldogs six months ago. He resigned amid allegations of misconduct by players, parents and school officials.

Franklin High’s quick 7-0 lead was a brief momentum changer for the team. Still Ole Brook answered by reeling off 41 straight points.

“We overcame that early strike by Franklin County and got some things going,” added Clopton. “Our offense moved the ball really well.”

Touchdown runs of 26, 22, and 8 by McDaniel and scoring jaunts of 30 and 2 by senior QB Fred Trevillion paced the Panthers explosive attack.

Ole Brook added a safety and a 13-yard pass touchdown throw from Fred Trevillion to his brother Javontae Trevillion to cap the scoring off.

Franklin County got a late touchdown throw from freshmen DeMartre Collins to DeMarris Tyler of three yards.

Bernard Selmon led the Bulldogs in rushing with 79 yards on nine carries.

On defense, Darrin Wiley made seven tackles and recovered a fumble. Graham Cowart also recovered a fumble, while Bobby Hunt and Danzel Allen deflected passes.

For the Panthers, senior Tyris Hill made three sacks. Darius O’Quinn had eight tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Josh Thomas and Ben Robinson were also credited with a sack apiece.
