With snow falling throughout the area and ice on roadways, the Mississippi Highway Patrol urges drivers to stay off the roadways except in emergencies.

“Troopers are reporting snow and ice accumulation,” Trrop M announced. “While the snow may be beautiful, please enjoy it safely from home. Travel in these conditions is highly discouraged.”

The Department of Transportation also cautious motorists to travel only if necessary.

“MDOT crews will closely monitor weather conditions and highways and bridges and be ready to respond as the winter weather moves in. Motorists should remain cautious, especially on bridges and overpasses. Due to the dangerous nature of this storm, travel is not recommended unless absolutely necessary in areas with the heaviest snowfall.”
