Six people are dead after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 55 in Jackson early Friday.

Jackson Police was dispatched to the scene near Daniel Lake around 2:45 a.m.

Authorities say a Chevy Silverado was traveling south in the northbound lanes, and hit a Hyundai Sonata. The driver of each vehicle and all four passengers in the Hyundai were all killed.

According to JPD, of the Sonata passengers, one was a teenager and two were children, all from Copiah County.

The driver of the truck was from Scott County. No identities have been released. According to First Baptist Church Brookhaven, the Copiah County victims were involved in one of its ministries.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims of this tragic event,” a statement from JPD said.
