Supervisors consider a new dump truck

BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County Supervisors took care of typical approvals during a docket meeting Wednesday before listening to a sales pitch for a new dump truck. A saleswoman from Truckworx Kenworth in Jackson visited the board and drove the dump truck all the way down from Vicksburg to demo it for supervisors.
The saleswoman explained available options for a lease purchase agreement and how the dealership can meet the needs of the county.
One of the first observations the supervisors made was that the medium sized, tandem axel T-480 would not work. Its bed can hold up to 16 to 17 cubic yards and there were concerns about it being overweight.
District 3 Supervisor John David Hart said the bed really needs to be able to hold 12 to 14 cubic yards of material and not weigh more than 56,000 pounds to stay legal. District 2 Supervisor Keith Lewis added they may need to get a shorter option to fit on some of the tight roads in Lincoln County.
District 4 Supervisor Eli Ferguson asked about warranties and service information as did the other supervisors. One positive take away the supervisors had was the potential trade off of not dealing with maintenance costs and time spent with an old dump truck down. Dump trucks are used by supervisors primarily to work on roads.
After looking at the dump truck in person, the supervisors concluded it would be worth a conversation with Lincoln County Administrator Daniel Calcote. No official action was taken.
