Severe storms, flash flooding pose risk

BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County and much of Southwest Mississippi could see isolated severe storms and flash flooding risks Wednesday. The severe storms could bring damaging wind gusts and possibly tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a slight risk of isolated severe storms Wednesday. Strong damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph could threaten much of Lincoln County. Additionally, some tornadoes are possible.
The NWS states the storms could arrive between noon and 10 p.m. Wednesday. Heavy rainfall could accompany the severe storms Wednesday afternoon. A limited threat of flash flooding is possible for southwest Mississippi including Lincoln County.
NWS Jackson warns two to three inches of rain could fall in a short amount of time. Localized flash flooding is possible in urban and low lying areas Wednesday afternoon and into the night.
NWS Jackson forecasts an otherwise sunny week with mostly sunny skies Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Friday night’s low will dip down to 49 degrees.
At this time, there are no active tropical storms in the gulf. According to the National Hurricane Center, there is an 80 percent chance of tropical cyclone formation in the next 7 days in the Southwest Caribbean Sea
