MCCOMB — Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks celebrated the end of the 2024 Association of Southeastern State Park Directors Conference with a ribbon cutting Wednesday afternoon. State Park leaders from the southeast placed the first love locks on Percy Quin State Park’s new Love Lock bridge.

Around 180 attendees participated in the Association of Southeastern State Parks Directors Conference and a majority of those attendees visited Percy Quin State Park in McComb Wednesday afternoon.

Readers may recall Percy Quin celebrated a grand re-opening this summer featuring renovated cabins, RV pads and an improved outdoor chapel. Signatures can be found on an old propane tank by the camp store that Brian Ferguson, Parks Chief of Staff, said was in disrepair before it was fixed and turned into a tourist attraction.

He explained turning the bridge spanning the Tangipahoa Lake Spillway into a Love Lock bridge aims to achieve the same purpose. The Love Lock bridge will provide another opportunity for visitors to engage with Mississippi State Parks and create new memories.

Love Locks will be available for purchase at the camp store for the general public once the machine used to engrave them arrives. MDWFP employees said the machine has not arrived yet but will provide an update when it does.
