BROOKHAVEN — No one was injured when a tire struck a home and left gaping hole in the brick wall on MS-550 Wednesday morning. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies and volunteer firefighters from Zetus, New Sight and Loyd Star fire departments were on scene.
Some of the volunteer firefighters had just gotten off a grass fire call further west on MS-550 Wednesday morning.
A call came in around 11:20 a.m. reporting they heard what sounded like an explosion in the side of a home at 840 MS-550 NW outside of Brookhaven. Deputies looked around the driveway and garden bed and examined the scene.
Someone pointed out a dual tire in a field to the northwest of the home which appeared to have broken off of a trailer. Further down MS-550, a log truck was stopped at the Ole 550 Opry House and was missing a tire. The log truck was at the Opry house along with a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy when volunteer firefighters cleared the scene.
Deputies at the home were working to figure out where the tire left the roadway and the path it took before striking the home and ricocheting into the field.
The incident is under investigation.
