Take a dog or cat home for less: Adopt a pet at a reduced fee during extended national event

The Fall National Empty the Shelters reduced-fee pet adoption event has been extended to Oct. 27.
Brookhaven Animal Rescue League and more than 390 other shelters in 44 states are participating in the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s push to help deserving shelter pets find loving forever homes. BPF sponsors reduced adoption fees of $50 or less for each cat or dog adopted during the nationwide event, originally scheduled Oct. 1-15.
BARL’s adoption fees are discounted to $50 per dog (regular $100) and $35 per cat (regular $85). Few animals are excluded. The fees include spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchipping.
“Right now, our nation’s animal shelters are in a crisis with too many pets coming in, and not enough adoptions to keep up,” said BISSELL Pet Foundation founder Cathy Bissell. “Euthanasia rates have hit a 3-year high, and healthy, adoptable pets are at risk due to space constraints.”
BARL is a no-kill shelter.
“BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Fall National Empty the Shelters offers a chance for the community to save lives through adoption while creating space for shelters to help more pets. If you can’t adopt, fostering can also make a lifesaving difference. Deserving pets across the country are counting on all of us.”
