Channel Control Merchants, parent company of Dirt Cheap and Bargain Hunt — with corporate offices located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where the company began — filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on Thursday, Oct. 10.
The company, which includes Dirt Cheap, Treasure Hunt, and Dirt Cheap Building Supplies — collectively filed under HDC Holdings II LLC and originally known as Hudson’s — plans to close all stores in order to clear up its debt.
With locations in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Texas, Georgia and Tennessee, the company has built its business on bargain hunters buying salvage, name-brand and private label merchandise for up to 90 percent off regular retail prices.
Dirt Cheap is considered a secondary market retailer, meaning they purchase items from regular retailers who have had difficulty selling those items through normal distribution channels. This may be due to purchasing errors, competition, or other economic factors.
With a final court hearing date of Nov. 7, 2024, all stores are expected to be closed by year’s end.
The company’s official Facebook page is already advertising some “Store Closing Sales.” The company’s official webpage, ilovedirtcheap.com, was not in operation Monday.
