EAST LINCOLN — A Lincoln County teenager died after a one-vehicle crash Thursday on Melvin Mason Road SE.
Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said the crash occurred around 7:25 p.m. Thursday night on a curve in Melvin Mason Road SE. A 2013 Ford Mustang left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area according to a crash report, Rushing said.
A 14-year-old passenger was able to get out of the vehicle and seek help, but the 15-year-old driver was still trapped inside the burning vehicle. First responders from East Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department were able to pull the driver out of the vehicle and get him to Kings Daughters Medical Center. Rushing said the driver later died.
Due to the victim’s age, Lincoln County Coroner Blake Wallace said the driver’s identity could not be released at this time. The family was notified last night, Wallace added.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families,” Rushing said. “The crash remains under investigation.”
