JACKSON — Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Commissioners will meet Wednesday for a regularly scheduled meeting. The educational session will begin at 10 a.m. with a business session starting at 11 a.m. at the MDWFP headquarters in Jackson. 

MDWFP released a final agenda Friday afternoon. Alligator Program Coordinator Andrew Arnett is expected to give an update on the program during the educational session. Members of the Trappers Association are also scheduled to make a presentation. 

Jason Thompson, Director of Administrative Services, will likely open the business session with prayer. A pair of Bills will give public comment regarding deer depredation permits. Bill Marcello and Bill Kyle are listed on the agenda for public comment. 

Thompson will give an update on license sales. It is possible he could give an update on the new licensing sale system which should go live in February 2025. 

Jeremy Bass, Director of Media, will provide a marketing update. Bass introduced a new logo for Mississippi State Parks last year and helped launch a new podcast called Mississippi Outdoors with Matt Wyatt serving as the host. 

Russ Walsh, Chief of Wildlife Staff, will present any special youth hunt requests before the commission. Col. Jerry Carter, Chief of Law Enforcement, will provide an update on enforcement. Carter’s report could be interesting this month as he usually provides details on the dove season opener. Last year was nicknamed the year of the baited field. 

Three hunters are requesting license reinstatements. Usually, these requests are related to a head lighting violation. 

According to the agenda, MDWFP’s next commission meeting will be held at their headquarters in Jackson on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
