BROOKHAVEN — A trio of young subjects targeted a retired Brookhaven teacher on Kraner Lane Monday night. Brookhaven Police Chief Kenny Collins said he heard the call come over the scanner.

Miriam Moyer, a retired teacher, taught Collins in her HomeEc class and was described by Collins as “The sweetest person.”

Moyer reportedly answered the door to a young girl and two young boys who asked for water Monday evening. She went to give them water and upon returning was sprayed by water. Collins said she was not able to give a clothing description of the subjects. He did not know if the subjects used a water hose or a cup in the incident.

He said it is believed the subjects were Black. Officers combed the neighborhood but were unable to find the culprits.

Anyone with surveillance footage Monday evening who may have caught the three subjects on video can contact the Brookhaven Police Department to share the evidence.

“It is a shame for someone to take their kindness and treat them like that, especially with it being someone elderly,” Collins said.
