1 officer killed, 2 wounded in Summit shooting; suspect fatally shot

A Thursday afternoon shooting has resulted in the death of one officer, the wounding of two others, and the death of the suspect.
According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Summit Police officers were working a checkpoint near West Railroad Avenue, when a car approached and a passenger presented a weapon, shooting at the officers. One of the officers, Troy Floyd, who ran for Lincoln County Sheriff in 2023, was struck and killed by the gunfire.
Two McComb Police officers arrived and exchanged gunfire with the subject. Both officers received non-life-threatening injuries, and the subject was fatally shot. The officers were identified as Joey Roberts and Tyler Harvey. Officer Roberts was wounded in one leg and was unable to return fire.
It is unknown what led to the confrontation, which occurred near Piggly Wiggly supermarket on Hwy. 51, one block from Summit’s Robb Street.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
