Jimmie Charles Smith was born March 6, 1946, in Brookhaven Mississippi to Grafton and Dorothy Smith. He left this world on August 4, 2024, at the age of 78.
Jimmie was a proud member of the Loyd Star graduating class of 1964. He attended Copiah-Lincoln and became a machinist by trade. He was drafted and served his country for 2 years as a CO at Whitfield, the Mississippi State Hospital where he was a carpenter. He came into a large family tree of hard workers.
He was most proud to be baptized into Christ and be a member of the New Salem Church of Christ in Brookhaven, MS. Jimmie loved the souls of men and had a burden to preach the truth from God’s word. He began preaching in the city of Monahans, Texas in 1968. A year later, he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas where he labored for several years. During that time, he married Cindy Diane Menasco of Ada, Oklahoma. Later he was asked to move to Green Forest, Arkansas and then later settled in Harrison around 1976. Jimmie maintained a radio program for years preaching the gospel, on television a few times, and held hundreds of gospel meetings from California to Florida. He was a proud member of the Highway Church of Christ where he labored as an evangelist for 50 years.
Jimmie was an active member of the Capps Batavia Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was a jack of all trades. He loved to work outside. He raised cattle, started a winter firewood delivery business and a custom hay baling operation to make ends meet while raising boys. He also drove a school bus for over 30 years for the Harrison School District.
God’s Word convicted him that there is one straight and narrow way to Heaven (Matt 7:13-14) and he practiced pure religion taking care of widows in their afflictions (James 1:27).
The family wishes to thank the Highway Church of Christ for their love and care during the last years of his life as well as the incredible care given by the staff at the Springs of Harrison.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Ripley Smith.
He is survived by his brother, Glynn Smith and his wife Sue of Brookhaven, Mississippi; Patsy Case and her husband Kenneth of Brookhaven, Mississippi; His twin sister Joy Nichols of Springfield, Missouri; Caron Smith, and her husband Dwight of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Donna Jones of Jackson, Mississippi; and sister-in-law, Nelda Smith of Brookhaven, Mississippi.
He is also survived by his faithful wife of 54 years, Cindy Diane Menasco Smith, formerly of Ada Oklahoma; Sons, Chad Smith and his wife Michele of Springfield, Missouri, Kip Smith and his wife Cynthia of Fort Worth, Texas, and Cullen Smith and his wife Julie of Farmerville, Louisiana.
