Man charged with arson

BROOKHAVEN — A man was arrested, charged and booked into the Lincoln County Jail for arson last Thursday. The arson case stemmed from a structure fire on Halbert Heights Road.
Fire Chief Jeff Ainsworth told The Daily Leader on July 29 the structure was saved and did not sustain significant damage. Brookhaven Police Department reported they were looking for Johnny Potts as a suspect in the arson case. Potts was booked into the Lincoln County Jail Thursday and charged with 4th Degree Arson following his arrest by Brookhaven Police Department.
Potts is a 30 year-old male and his listed address is Industrial Park Road in Brookhaven.

If convicted, state statute explains Potts would be sentenced to the penitentiary for not less than one nor more than two years or fined not to exceed one thousand dollars. Mississippi State Law defines fourth degree arson as “Any person who willfully and maliciously attempts to set fire to or attempts to burn or to aid, counsel or procure the burning of any of the buildings or property.”
