Thieves were caught on camera Tuesday stealing donations left for St. Andrew’s Thrift Store in Brookhaven.
The store, located on East Monticello Street, has a drop-off area behind the store where donors leave items for the mission. All proceeds from sales benefit St. Andrew’s Mission, which provides clothing and food items in McComb, and free medical care in both McComb and Brookhaven.
Video cameras recorded two females and one male taking multiple items and placing them into their vehicles. One vehicle is a reddish-color Chevy pickup with a tool box. The other is a black Chevrolet SUV with large letters on the back glass — “I EAT —- AND COOKIES.”
St. Andrew’s executive director Ed Codding said the stealing is an ongoing issue.
“What they don’t realize is stealing from us is not hurting us, but takes away our opportunities to help the people in need,” Codding said. ‘All monies from the thrift stores help support our 15 ministries, one of which is our free medical clinic located at 217 N. Whitworth Ave. in Brookhaven. The clinic offers free primary care for individuals who do not have insurance. It is by appointment only.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, several people had reported the tag number and other information from the SUV to St. Andrew’s volunteers, who passed on the information to Brookhaven Police Department.
Anyone with information on the thieves is asked to call Brookhaven Police at 601-833-2424. The Free Medical Clinic can be reached at 601-990-2105.
