BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County Board of Supervisors approved payroll, accounts payable and personal reports in a docket meeting Wednesday before turning to important issues. Garbage pickup being one of them. 

District 5 Supervisor Doug Falvey said Arrow Disposal Services Inc. failed to pick up garbage on several roads last week. District 3 Supervisor John David Hart said he had similar issues. 

“I had to pick up six roads last week. I hope we don’t get into a mess like we did with Waste Pro,” Falvey said. “I asked Joe (Honea III) if people were coming to work. He said yes. Just a heads up we might have to deal with this for the next three months.”

Lincoln County residents might recall the way Waste Pro stopped picking up trash in the County when the contract was awarded to ADSI back in 2018. Supervisors had to pick up garbage over the summer.

Falvey told his fellow Supervisors if they pick up garbage they need to record how many hours, the roads and the men used to pick up the garbage so a report could be given to Lincoln County Administrator Daniel Calcote. 

On June 17, the County voted to award a contract for garbage pickup to Waste Management pending on the City awarding the contract to Waste Management. Brookhaven’s Board of Alderman voted to go with Waste Management on June 18. ADSI’s contract with the City and County ends on Sept. 30. 

“If we need to, Waste Management could help us,” Calcote said. 

District 4 Supervisor Eli Ferguson asked if ADSI would pick up their trash cans. Calcote said they would as residents do not own the trash cans and Waste Management would bring their trash cans out. Waste Management’s contract starts on October 1. There are no expected increases in cost to Lincoln County residents for solid waste.
