JACKSON — Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Commission heard a report on Law Enforcement Wednesday. The report came from Col. Jerry Carter, Chief of Law Enforcement, at a regularly scheduled commission meeting. 

Carter said officers issued 901 citations in May. No residents license was the most common offense with 178 citations. Personal Flotation Device violations were cited 137 times, no boat registration cited 110 times, no boating class certificate cited 56 times and reckless operation of a boat cited 55 times.

Officers worked a special Boating Under the Influence enforcement period over Memorial Day Weekend. Carter reported 10 BUIs were issued during the Memorial Day weekend. 

MDWFP’s dive team completed intense training. Carter said it is something the agency has needed for a long time. 

At this time, Mississippi is training 21 cadets to become game wardens across the state. 

After the meeting, Carter gave a brief update on the turkey baiting case with crickets, which former Commissioner Leonard Bentz was caught up in. 

Carter said to his knowledge everything had been settled outside of court meaning the violators had paid their fines.
