BROOKHAVEN — Over the past year, Lincoln County engineer Ryan Holmes has advised supervisors of the need to pass an updated subdivision ordinance. Supervisors have not passed an ordinance yet but it has been discussed. 

Holmes said a new ordinance would help make the process of creating a new subdivision more uniform. A moratorium on new subdivisions was approved in October by supervisors. No new applications will be approved until an ordinance is passed. Talks about the new ordinance were put on hold with the end of several supervisor’s terms. 

“Greg and I have talked about it a few times. I think we need to bring it back up again,” Holmes said. “We are hearing more activity there. We don’t have anything in place. We might need to move forward and have a subcommittee help draft the ordinance.” 

Holmes said there are a couple of ordinances already in place in counties of similar size to Lincoln County. He added every county is different and it may help to take what works for Lincoln County. Pike County recently passed a new subdivision ordinance and could be helpful. 

Supervisors Eli Ferguson and John David Hart volunteered to serve on the subcommittee for a new subdivision ordinance. The subcommittee would be made up of Ferguson, Hart, Daniel Calcote, Holmes and Kelly Besonnette, who handles the 911 registry.
