MT. ZION — Mt. Zion Baptist Church was scheduled to host a second day of Vacation Bible School this morning but a power outage canceled the event. The skies were blue, clear and full of sunshine yet the steady hum of generators could be heard along the county line.
Southwest Electric reported 997 customers in Copiah County were without power while 178 customers in Lincoln County were without power until 1 p.m. Tuesday. Power is now fully restored to customers in Lincoln and Copiah Counties. A map of outages from Southwest Electric showed most of the customers without power were long I-55 from Mt. Zion to Crystal Springs.
The power came on just in time for air conditioning units to start working. Temperatures will only get up to a high of 88 degrees this afternoon. National Weather Service in Jackson warns temperatures will reach 88 degrees Wednesday and 92 Thursday before hitting highs of 96 and 98 on Friday and Saturday.
A 40 percent chance of rain is forecast for Sunday and a 50 percent chance of rain is forecast for Monday.
