NEW SIGHT — Firefighters with New Sight Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to reports of a field on fire Friday afternoon. The field was on the 1800 block of New Sight Drive.
A swirling wind moved thick white smoke towards New Sight Drive and smoke lingered in the area as burnt grass smoldered. The landowner stated it was a controlled burn and firefighters left the scene after making sure it was all clear.
Prescribed fire is a great tool in land management. Be sure you follow the rules and regulations on prescribed burning. The certification of a prescribed burn manager can protect you if a prescribed burn were to get out of control. Be sure to call your local volunteer fire department and dispatch before conducting a controlled burn. It is best to always check and monitor the weather before and during a controlled burn.
