Memorial services for Mr. Charlie Joe “Chuck” Ivey Jr. will be held at Easthaven Baptist Church on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2:00 in the afternoon; the family will receive visitors in the church Fellowship Hall following the service. Dr. Hal Kitchings will be officiating with Brookhaven Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Ivey, 81, of Wesson, passed away from this life on May 9, 2024, at the University Medical Center in Jackson. He was born on April 20, 1943, in Kosciusko, Mississippi to Charlie Joe Ivey Sr. and Jewel Leon Harger Ivey.
Chuck had a long career in broadcasting starting in Belzoni at age 18. Before moving to Brookhaven in 1977, he did brief radio stints in Memphis and Birmingham with the majority of his time in the Mississippi Delta and Yazoo City. In Brookhaven, his radio career included WCHJ, WBKN, WJMB, WRQO and SuperTalk Southwest MS “Thursday Open Line with Chuck Ivey.” Also during his years in Brookhaven, he has produced and hosted two live TV shows on the local cable channel for Cable One (now Sparklight), Lincoln Live and The Chuck Ivey Show.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Joy Geraldine Ivey, Evelyn Ellington and Carol Payne; brother-in-law, Billy Gerald; and stepson, Justin Hickman.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Jullia Ingram Ivey; his sisters, Fay Gerald and Karen Clanton (Charles); brother-in-law, Robert Ellington; son, Charlie J. Ivey III “Chip”; daughters, Anita Ivey, Collette Manning, Jeanne Carava, and StephAnie Phillips (Brad); grandchildren, Morgan, Connor (Schyler), Spencer, McKenna, Wesley, Sami and Seraphin; great-grandchildren, Jack, Scarlett and Raeleigh Jo; and many nieces and nephews.
