JACKSON — Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks data shows over 15,000 turkeys were harvested in 2024 and reported through GameCheck. Mississippi’s turkey program coordinator Adam Butler will determine an overall harvest estimate this month.
Mississippi state law requires hunters to report their turkey harvest by 10 p.m. on the day of harvest using GameCheck. The MDWFP app and website feature easy to use portals to complete GameCheck. A turkey tagging system should be implemented over the next couple of years which would help have a better number on the turkeys harvested.
Hunters reported 15,455 turkeys harvested this year. Lincoln County had 207 harvest reports with most of the harvests coming in the opening weeks of the season. Copiah County had 325 turkey harvest reports.
